HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY Knockhill !!!
The weekend of September 20th and 21st, 2024, marked a monumental year: the 50th Anniversary of Scotland's National Motorsport Circuit, Knockhill Racing Circuit. Knockhill opened on September 21, 1974, with a modest motorcycle meeting on an old scrambler track beside a railway line. This was the beginning of a dream that, 50 years later, has transformed the site into a dual-direction, MSA-registered race circuit. Knockhill remains the only circuit in Scotland that can host both motorcycle and car racing events in reverse directions.
We celebrated this anniversary by gathering Scotland's legendary champions in one place to commemorate this milestone, and we were thrilled to be part of the festivities. Our videographer, CMC-Images (Craig McAllister), who has been visiting the circuit for 30 years, captured this remarkable celebration. Saturday's weather was classic Knockhill, with mixed wet and dry conditions throughout the morning, which created some challenges for the event schedule. Nonetheless, the spirits remained high, and it was a memorable family celebration.
We asked Craig about his favorite memory of Knockhill, and he shared this:
"Over the years of visiting Knockhill, I've had some incredible memories. Hearing the roar of the TVR Tuscans in the British GT Championship was unforgettable, but my best memory has to be from a BTCC event in 1995. During the winners' tour on what I called the 'Waving Truck,' Tim Harvey was driving for the TWR Volvo 850T5 team. On the way down the 'Railway Straight,' I was jumping up and down with my thumbs up, and Tim Harvey copied me! I was 9 years old, and it made me the happiest kid in the world."
On Sunday, we witnessed a heartwarming track walk, where spectators filled the circuit. Seeing so many families with children in attendance brought back memories of our first visits in 1994, often accompanied by family members who are no longer with us. It was an emotional experience, a beautiful reminder of the role Knockhill plays in our family history.
Our video of this celebration is now live on our YouTube channel. Special thanks to CMC-Images for his ongoing dedication and passion throughout the season. We look forward to seeing the channel grow into the 2025 season. The link to the video is attached below.
