Circuit Guide: Croft Circuit
Located in the picturesque Dalton-on-tees not far from Middlesbrough we have Croft Circuit, Location does serve a few issues with this circuit unfortunately with noise issues with the surrounding area it doesnt hold as many race events over the year as we would like to see, (NIMBY). Over the years of visiting the circuit it has always been a friendly and happy place to visit for club racing with the Darlington Distric Motor Club (DDMC) and also again for the BTCCs annual visit to the north east.
A very tricky circuit for drivers developed from an old airfild this circuit looks like it should be pretty simple to race however over the years drivers and riders have found the challenges of the layout. From very fast main straight into a fast left right series of corners favourited by many fans with a huge banked viewing area you can witness some very close action from the race starts flowing round to the right at Clerveux then a short straighten before the long hawthorns bend into the chicane you will for sure witness some amazing racing.
After the chicane you are hit with another long straight for some side by side action all the way up to tower bend which over the years has seen many a car/bike end up in the corn field out the back. Once you have successfully survived the fast tower bend you come up to the very very fast and scary Jim Clark Esses a quick left right snap missing the always porcariously placed Hay Bail on the apex. The back side of the circuit is much slower than the start after Sunny in and Sunny out you head into the comples which is a series of slow corners leading back onto the front straight.
A must visit circuit for any race fan especially for the club racing events, Always great to get along without the hectic BTCC crowds, We will hopefully be heading to the circuit in 2024 and catch some of the club and BTC action next season and reporting from the circuit after each round. I would recommend getting along to the TCR UK event in July to witness some close wheel to wheel action.
