BTCC 2024 Race 1 Donington
Torrential rain over night and all morning has brought major delays to the opening day of the season with the first support race of the day set for 9am was haulted due to the rivers running over the Donington Park Circuit, The Donington Park and MSV circuit team have worked very hard to get the circuit ready for racing and after a 12 minute warm up in the morining Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton both said
“ The circuit at this time is about 30 mins away from being ready if no more rainis to fall”
The delay run all the way through to 13:20 when pitlane finally opened for the first race.
So as the lights went out for Race 1 of the much anticipated 2024 season Sam Osbourne had a collision with one of the power maxed racing Vauxhall astras ending in a huge incident colliding with the inside of the Craner Curve tyre barrier destroying the covayer belt and causing another hude delay to the race with Tom Ingram, Jake Hill and Ash Sutton being the top 3,
Once the barrier had been repaired there appeared to be an injured marshal sitting on the grass awaiting medical assistance causing a further delay to the release of the pack back to the racing action.
Racing resumed on lap 16 after a lengthy Safety car period leaving a 6 lap sprint to finish the opening round of the season lead by Tom Ingram.
Lap 18 there was a great battle between Jake Hill and Ash Sutton with sutton moving up to second over all and further down the field a three car incident with Rowbottom, Doble and Huff colliding at the old hairpin haulted Robb Huffs progress through the field from the back of the grid
Tom Ingram puts in a dominant drive to win over all race 1 of the day with a gap back to Ash Sutton and Jake hill then Coling Turkington and Ronan Pearson to head out the top 5.
