KNOCKHILL SMRC Round 1 Mini & Legends

A very changable weekend was on hand for the start of the 2024 race calendar at Knockhill Circuit, From a sunny Saturday to a rather damp Sunday however that didnt halt the racing action throughout the weekend,

We could only attend the Sunday of the event but the action on the circuit was hotter than the ambient temprature thoughout the day, The day started with some dry running for the familiarisation for all classes in the morning before the first race got underway.

SCOTTISH LEGENDS

The most exciting news from the weekend was record breaking entry for the Scottish Legend championship which for a number of years was rather low on entries for a number for reasons but to see a 30 car grid line up for there first round of the season was a great sight, The races were as always fast and frantic with some good close racing all the way down the pack, The results from there races were

RACE 1

1st - Stuart Black , 2nd - Daniel Clark , 3rd - Matthew Pape

RACE 2

1st - Stuart Black, 2nd - Daniel Clark, 3rd - Scott Hynds

RACE 3

1st - Daniel Clark, 2nd - Maxim Popelyushko, 3rd - Steve Whitelegg

The race one and two winner Stuart Black was very happy to have won the races however in the wet conditions mentioned just how difficult the cars were to drive in the wet with them being very sensative and nimble these cars were.

SCOTTISH MINI COOPER CUP / R53

As always the most popular races over a weekend is the nick named ”SMRC Touring cars” in the Scottish Minis, These are always an action packed race event no matter the conditions and this weekend was no different. The low entry of the R53 models saw Jamie Blake run away with the race win from Rich Flett of over 12 seconds but in the Cooper class that was a bit different, Some epic battles between Robbie Dalgleish , Oly Mortimer and Chad Little through race 1 of the day was spectacular with some of the most dramatic opposite

lock over takes into turn 1 we have seen. After all the batteling Robbie Dalgleish took the spoils of the Race 1 Cooper win over Chad Little and Oly Mortimer in Third with less than a second covering the three of them.

Race 2 as always action packed with no R53 class taking part in this race it was all out racing for the cooper class and this time we saw Jack Irvine take the race win with Ian Muro and Jason Ballantyne finish 2nd and 3rd with only 0.4 covering the three of them.
